Another update- February 25

Below I have finally put all my old posts onto the blog. It feels good to have it all on here! It is posted newest to oldest with the referral as the first post.

News! We got measurements of Danny today. They are from January 30. Weight 9.5 lbs and length 20.8 inches. Compared with 5.6 lbs when born and 7 lbs at the end of December he is bulking up good!! The outfits I sent last week are probably too small...

I also am excited that a friend got her referral today!!! Congrats M & family!!! It makes me remember how excited I was when we got our referral last month and when other friends started to get referrals. It is very encouraging to see the process moving along and see photos of the babies! Depending on the courts etc, we could end up traveling with one of these other families which would be really nice.

Update Photos and Video- February 17, 2009

Today we received update photos and video! In two photos he looks sad but in one he is smiling. Lots of good smiles on the video also. Here are the photos:

Paperwork- January & February 2009

1-21-09
We received our Adoption Agreements today. We are still waiting for the power of attorney to be e-mailed. Worked on other paperwork needed including new copied of the home study because the notary’s seal expired soon and needs to be good well through the adoption process.
When we receive the 8 required agreements we need to sign them and have them notarized. Then along with the home study they are authenticated by the Secretary of State and the TECO regional office. Then all these documents are sent to our social worker and they will add more documents and send on to Taiwan.

We also received the international adoption doctors review of the medical information info today. They had a few minor questions and comments for our benefit but no major concerns. They said he has good lips!! Obviously that means something to them- not really to me!!

Names- I like Luke, Ed is not really sold on Luke, We talked about Daniel tonight and he seems to like that better. Daniel Liu Michel? Kyle still does not like Luke. Paige does not care!

1-23-09
We are still missing the Power of Attorney. Monday is the start of the Chinese New Year Celebration when the offices in Taiwan are closed. It should like they are closed for one week and only handle emergency matters the second week so I think our documentation is on hold for two weeks. This is a little upsetting because I had hoped to get our documents done faster than most people with the hope of traveling sooner. It is out of my control so I will just focus on matters I can control.
Speaking of traveling, our social worker said we should expect to travel 4-6 months after referral. This seems like a LONG time to wait but we will get monthly updates with photos and video.
One thing I can control in this process is the care packages. I think it is time to buy something for our boy!!! OK- I bought one small soft blanket/animal thing at the airport in New Orleans already! I think he needs a few sleepers and maybe something that plays music…
Also, I have been looking at his video every night – so cute!

2-2-09
The final paperwork arrived. We will try to get it all done in the next few days. It has to be signed and notarized. Then the Secretary of State has to authenticate that the notary’s seal etc are authentic. Then the TECO office needs to authenticate all the documents. Sounds easy?

We think the name is Daniel (Danny) Liu!!!

2-4-09
Ed went downtown to take care of the Sec of State & Teco but the Secretary of State would only authenticate one of the notaries documents. The other had an error on the stamp. We will attempt to re-notarize tomorrow and try again. (some of the documents have an original fingerprint from Taiwan on them so we can’t just print another one etc…)

2-5-09
Success at the Sec of State. Documents hand delivered to TECO. They appear complete and will fed ex back to us tomorrow night.

2-9-09
Documents received from TECO and Fed Ex’d to our social worker!!! Special thanks to Kerrie and Rita, my notary friends!

Telling the Kids- January 19, 2009

On Monday night we decided it was time to tell the kids the news! We showed them the video and explained that we think/hope this may be their brother in Taiwan. Kyle immediately insisted we could name him "Bob". We have no idea where Bob came from but this was the second time he insisted the baby should be "Bob. Keep in mind that when Paige was due, Kyle insisted she should be named "Kimmy". His friend Tommy had two baby sisters and one is Kimmy so we quickly figured out that one but "Bob" is a mystery to us. He has since added Kai and Rex (from Star Wars) to the possible names list.

Both kids were very concerned about which bedroom the baby will sleep in. Both insisted the baby should stay with them so the topic was quickly tabled. They really did not have many other questions except if they could call him on the phone???

Girls Weekend- January 18, 2009

Ok- it seems weird to go on a girls weekend after I just got this exciting news but it seemed too late to not go and I knew I could get answers to many questions about this process over the weekend and was excited to meet everyone.

My roommate, J had just gotten her referral also so we were experiencing the similar emotions and questions. It was great to spend time with her and be able to ask dumb questions and just relate. She was so open and fun!!! She also has two biological kids so we were coming from a similar place.

The other five girls had all gone through this process already and were amazing at answering questions. I flew to New Orleans with another group member and she got the majority of these questions which was perfect because she has adopted twice and is an amazing smart woman. All the mom’s were from different states, had different careers but were all united in being adoptive moms who were crazy about their kids. Thanks ladies!

Referral- January 16, 2009

1/16/09- We received a referral!!!

At about 10:30 am I was paged by the receptionist at work. My assistant said that someone named L (social worker) was looking for me and on hold. I immediately knew it was good news! She asked what I was doing on December 10th. I was completely confused and said the Brilliant answer of "I don’t know- Why?". She said because that was the day your son was born. I think that’s when I started shaking. (and it lasted for hours!)
She said she was e-mailing me photos of our son. I said- send the photos and I will call you back when I get them to talk more.

I knew Ed was in a 10 am meeting downtown so I e-mail him saying- Call me ASAP- We got a referral! He called quickly and I told him the news and to call me as soon as he got done with the meeting. I called my mom and told her we got a referral and to wait by the computer for photos. The photos did not come because of the security on my work e-mail server….. so finally I guessed Ed’s g-mail password and saw his photo!!

So cute! I could not get the video to work.
I was leaving the office at 12:00 for a girls weekend in New Orleans with the Yahoo adoption group. So I scrambled to get things printed so I could take all the info with me and try to see the video- but no luck there. I talked to Ed about five times that morning and my mom two times and don’t think I stopped shaking until after I got to the airport (if then!).

Ed and I decided to wait to tell the kids after I got back from the weekend so we could tell them together.
